Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, has reported a large 1,100% increase in its revenue. This announcement was made as the company gets ready for its Initial Public Offering (IPO), which is when a company first sells shares to the public.
The company's financial documents show that it has committed to spending about $895 billion. Most of this money is planned for computing power, which is essential for developing and running AI technologies. A significant part of this spending is expected to happen over the next five years.
Anthropic was started in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers Dario Amodei, who is the CEO, and Daniela Amodei, who is the President. The company focuses on making AI safe. About $70 billion of the committed spending is due before September 2027, and around $447.5 billion is expected to be spent before the end of 2030.
The company's operating expenses, which are the costs of running the business, also increased. In the third quarter, these expenses rose to $17.5 billion, up from $10.6 billion in the previous quarter. This increase was mainly because of the high cost of getting enough computing capacity quickly to meet the demand for their services. This led to a slight decrease in its adjusted operating margin, from 19% in the second quarter to 15% in the third quarter.
