Mahindra, an Indian car manufacturer, first showed its Vision S concept vehicle on August 15, 2025. This concept was revealed alongside other ideas like the Vision T, Vision SXT, and Vision X. Since then, Mahindra has secured a design patent for the Vision S, which means they have officially registered its unique look.
Prototypes, or early test versions, of the Vision S have been seen on roads and in high-altitude areas. These test vehicles show some interesting features, including a grille with six vertical slats, L-shaped LED lights, and projector headlamps. The SUV also has prominent wheel arches and short overhangs, which are parts of the car that extend beyond the wheels.
At the back of the Vision S, there are vertically arranged LED tail lamps that are connected across the tailgate. A full-size spare wheel is expected to be mounted on the outside of the tailgate, giving it a rugged, lifestyle-oriented look. While the original concept had extra lights on the roof, a roof ladder, and a holder for a jerry can, it is not yet known if these will be on the final production model.
Inside, the test vehicles have been seen with two screens, each about 10.25 inches, for showing information and entertainment. There are also vertical triangular air conditioning vents and physical buttons for controlling the climate system. The production model is expected to include features like an electronic parking brake, automatic hold, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic glass roof.
The Vision S is expected to use Mahindra's new NU_IQ platform, which is a base designed to support different types of engines, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric. Reports suggest it might use engines similar to those in the XUV 3XO, such as a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. The production model is anticipated to launch in 2027, though Mahindra has not yet announced official launch dates, prices, or final details.
With its compact size and off-road-inspired design, the Vision S could compete with other small SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. However, a design patent only registers the look of the vehicle and does not guarantee that every detail seen in the patent images will be in the final car.

Vehicle Platform
In car manufacturing, a 'platform' is the basic set of parts, like the chassis, floorpan, and some mechanical components, that different car models can share.
