A 51-year-old man named Jayabalakrishnan died in Kochi after a luxury car, allegedly driven by a teenager, collided with his scooter. The accident happened around 2:20 AM near a car showroom at Maraparambu on Container Road in Cheranalloor.
The teenager reportedly told investigators that it was raining at the time of the accident. He claimed that Jayabalakrishnan suddenly changed direction to avoid waterlogging, making it impossible to avoid the collision.
The Cheranalloor police have registered a case related to the incident. The charges include causing death by negligence and rash driving, under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
There have been allegations that the police quickly removed the car from the accident scene, which some suggest might have been an attempt to destroy evidence. This incident follows another fatal accident earlier in the month in Nedumbassery, where three young people died in a crash involving an allegedly speeding luxury car driven by a 19-year-old.
