A cyclone is a large, rotating storm system that forms over warm ocean waters. It is characterized by strong winds spiralling inwards towards a low-pressure centre, bringing heavy rain and sometimes storm surges to coastal areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) tracks these systems and classifies them based on their wind speeds, such as 'cyclonic storm' or 'very severe cyclonic storm'.
